Quarterback Andrew Luck will not play against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday, Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard announced Monday.
Backup quarterback Scott Tolzien will start for the Colts on Sunday.
Luck is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and has missed all of training camp and did not play in the preseason.
Tolzien completed 23 out of 34 passes in the preseason for 241 yards and threw zero touchdowns and an interception.
The Colts recently agreed to trade away wide receive Phillip Dorsett to the New England Patriots in exchange for quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Brissett isn’t expected to see action right away as he needs to learn the Colts offense.
Luck’s 2017 debut is still unknown for now and the Colts will have to find a way to be successful without their starting quarterback.
